About This Blog:
The emotional and mental health of teens today is facing more challenges that ever before. Anxiety and depression are at an all time high for teens. The teen pregnancy rate is creeping back up. And, gang violence (and consequently, teen homicides) is rampant. In addition to all of this, given the current recession, it is tougher than ever on single parent homes. Here, I will bring information, tips, and advice that teens as well as single parents can use to ensure that the next generation is properly equipped with a strong mental and emotional foundation as they enter adulthood.
And…A Little About Me:
Author. Public Speaker. Coach. IT Consultant. Non-profit co-founder. These are the words that describe where I am today.
However, my beginning was far from spectacular.
I grew up in a single parent home. My mother never got the chance to finish her education, and, being a single mother, she constantly struggled to make ends meet. This meant always having two or three jobs at a time so I could have the advantages that she never had. My mother lived her entire life just surviving and providing a better life for me, giving up her personal dreams in the process. She was resigned to being the best mother and provider she could be based on her limited resources and innate survival skills. However, she suffered from a deep depression, a distorted sense of happiness, and a general negative outlook on life. These things gradually consumed her and negatively shaped my viewpoints on life at a young age. In August of 2007, my mother passed away after 13 years of battling congestive heart failure. She died without realizing any of the personal goals she had in life. She was 73.
My mother’s story and personal struggles are the motivation behind “Heroes at Home” radio. Also, my own experiences led to the creation of The C.H.A.M.P. Within program which is designed to enrich the lives of children from single parent homes by establishing helpful mental and emotional traits and habits early on.
There are so many single parents that have been able to create full lives by realizing their own potential despite the demands of single parenthood. As a result, their teens and pre-teens are flourishing as well. We REALLY need to hear these positive stories of hope and encouragement. Thus, to create the most informative show possible, I received personal training and coaching in internet radio broadcasting from Raven Blair Davis of Kitchen Table Radio. This invaluable training has allowed me to bring stories of achievements and successes to provide hope and resources to single parents that have not yet lived beyond taking care of their families and simply surviving. Life is very short and my goal is to help teens, pre-teems, and their single parents have the life of enjoyment, fulfillment, and achievement that they deserve.
